Vaṁsa,【陽】1.種族,世系,家庭。2.印度箣竹(主要分布於東西兩半球的熱帶和亞熱帶的一種大木本植物 (Bambusa arundinacea),有中空的莖,直徑達五或六英寸,並且堅硬而結實,用來做家具、炊具和建築結構架;小竹竿也可用〔如做手杖和長笛〕,幼苗可當食物)。3.竹笛。vaṁsakāḷīra,【陽】竹筍。vaṁsaja,【形】出生在某氏族或種族中。vaṁsavaṇṇa,【陽】天青石、青金石(lapis lazuli),天青石色。vaṁsāgata,【形】從父親傳到兒子的。vaṁsānupālaka,【形】保存世系的。

Cp.vaṁsa-ghatikā “a kind of game” Divy 475),against Dial.I.9 “acrobatic feats by Caṇḍālas.” Cp.J.IV,390 in same passage.Franke (Dīgha trsln) has “bamboo-tricks”; his conjecture as “vaṁsa-dhamanaṁ,” playing the bamboo pipe (cp.Miln.31:“vaṁsadhamaka”),as oldest reading is to be pointed out.‹-› On vaṁsa in similes see J.P.T.S.1907,134.
