Taraniya Thera:1.Taraniya Thera.-An arahant.In a previous birth he took the Buddha and his monks across a river which was in flood.Thirteen kappas ago he became king five times under the name of Sabhogavā (Ap.i.204f).

He is probably identical with Sambhūta Thera.ThagA.i.47.



2.Taraniya Thera.-An arahant.Ninety-one kappas ago he took the Buddha Vipassī and his monks across a river in a boat.Ap.i.234.



3.Taraniya Thera.-An arahant.Ninety-one kappas ago he built a bridge on an impassable road.Fifty-five kappas ago he was a king,Samogadha by name.Ap.i.238.



4.Taraniya Thera.-An arahant.In a previous birth he was a tortoise in the river Vinatā,and,seeing that the Buddha Atthadassī wished to cross the river,he took him on his back.Ap.ii.428f.
